Book Club: In the Woods by Tana French

Hosted by Rebecca @ Love at First Book and Allison @ The Book Wheel

For the upcoming month of March, we will be reading In the Woods by Tana French.

Goodreads says:

“As dusk approaches a small Dublin suburb in the summer of 1984, mothers begin to call their children home. But on this warm evening, three children do not return from the dark and silent woods. When the police arrive, they find only one of the children gripping a tree trunk in terror, wearing blood-filled sneakers, and unable to recall a single detail of the previous hours.

Twenty years later, the found boy, Rob Ryan, is a detective on the Dublin Murder Squad and keeps his past a secret. But when a twelve-year-old girl is found murdered in the same woods, he and Detective Cassie Maddox—his partner and closest friend—find themselves investigating a case chillingly similar to the previous unsolved mystery. Now, with only snippets of long-buried memories to guide him, Ryan has the chance to uncover both the mystery of the case before him and that of his own shadowy past.”

Below is the goal (GOAL, not what you MUST do!) for what you should be reading each week to stay on track with us.  You still have time to get a copy of the book if you’d like to read with us!

Week 1: March 3-9 – Prologue-Ch 6

Week 2: March 10-16 – Ch 7-12

Week 3: March 17-23 – Ch 13-19

Week 4: March 24-30 – Ch 20-End & Final Thoughts

As you finish each week’s reading, go to the blog post and start or continue the conversation!  Remember to come back to see if people respond, and help keep the discussion going!

The book is a little over 400 pages, so it’s about 100 pages per week.  If you’re late, early, need to skip a week, whatever, no big deal!   It’s all about having a good conversation about a book.

So excited to begin!

Thanks for reading,

  2. I want to join, Rebecca!!
But I think I will read the book in Spanish, because in English I’m really slow and I have more books to read in English, but this is not a problem for the book club, righ??
The public library of my hometown has the book (it is the only book they have of this author).

  10. I didn’t realize I had not signed up, but meant to participate all along! It is kind of cool that I didn’t read the first posts when I started the book a little late – I could really get into it without any preconceived notions. 🙂

I love the confusion that Adam/Rob is feeling, wonder more and more as I go along what really happened – 20 years ago and now. I feel like there are hints being dropped, but I am not able to string them together yet to come up with whodunit. That’s a good thing – I don’t want to know! Looking forward to reading everybody’s take.
