Ocoee Middle School in Central Florida made this fantastic video a few years ago, but it is still SO relevant! The took the words from a popular Black Eyed Peas song, changed them (with permission) and made this amazing video with the entire school to promote reading!
Take a few minutes to check it out. . .and before you know it, you’ll be singing THIS version of the song!
Gotta Keep Reading – Ocoee Middle School (to the familiar tune of I’ve Got a Feeling by the Black Eyed Peas)
Happy Friday!
Thanks for reading,
I LOVE IT
I’ll share in my blog (Spanish) too, thanks. It’s great, they made a great work with the song, the dance, fantastic!!
Was it the school were your worked or something?
Not my school, but about an hour away from where I worked. Florida has a reading contest every year where kids make great reading videos, and I think this might have been part of the contest. Either way, our media specialist showed it to the kids like 3 years ago, and I have shown it to mine every year. It’s great because all the kids know the original song, and this one is sooo catchy!
Awesome. Loved it. Thanks for sharing.

You’re welcome! I just find it so inspiring!
That is FAB!
I know!!!!! Doesn’t it make you want to organize a whole school into doing that??? They’re having so much fun and it’s all about reading!!!
What an amazing video! I am a big fan of flash mobs (on my bucket list) AND reading, so this pretty much brings me to my happy place.
Yes for sure! It is a couple of years old, but since the song is so popular, the video can last a long time too!
Love the video! It is such a great idea. They have definitely nailed it to interest their target audiences in a fun way. Brilliant strategy! Thank you for sharing Rebecca.
Danny
Danny,
It’s also great because it reaches a broad audience: people who like to read and also know the Black Eyed Peas song!
Rebecca
Exactly! We need more of such fun and good ideas.
My students definitely love singing this song, and your post makes me want to go in and show it this week. Thanks for bringing it back to my attention!
You should! (Did you???). I just know how the kids like it, and honestly, I find myself singing it often (I know, I’m a book nerd) but it’s just too catchy and fun not to share!
No, I didn’t show it today, but one day soon I’m gonna!
Came back to watch the video again….
Don’t worry, I literally find myself singing it ALL the time. And when I was teaching, I showed it to my students a ton because they wanted to see it, and I also love it so much!
